Course Narrative:
In order to fulfill Major Learning Outcome (MLO) 6: Research and Technology, I took the course WLC 300: WLC Major ProSeminar during the Fall 2020 semester. MLO 6 requires students to learn and use appropriate research and technology methods to collect, manage, and analyze technology-based resources to develop and produce scholarly work.
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the requirements needed to fulfill for the major. Along with learning about the different requirements needed, we also learned about different career paths that can be taken upon completion of the program. Not only did this course allow us to start to think about our future, but also use technology in a different way. One of the assignments that introduced me to the process of using technology within the major, was beginning to work on our e-portfolio. One of things that stuck with me is that the creation and delivery of our e-portfolio was supposed to be representative of us as individuals. While beginning to work on the portfolio, we also wrote our personal statement. Taking into consideration the importance of representing ourselves through visual representation, the personal statement also allowed me to reflect on the course content by considering the path I would like to take in the future. Based on the knowledge acquired through the course, I began to think of a potential career in speech pathology or interpreting/translating, two careers that still aligned with my initial goals of helping others out.
